Raising Future Leaders: South View’s Focus on Curiosity, Kindness & Confidence

Edarabia had the opportunity to interview David Flint, Principal of South View School in Dubai, to gain insights into their plans for 2025, their approach to academic focus and curriculum development, anticipated challenges in education over the next five years, and strategies for keeping students engaged in learning. Mr. Flint shared valuable insights into South View School's commitment to providing exceptional educational opportunities, maintaining a boutique school environment while accommodating growth, and preparing students for the future.

  1. What are your plans for 2025?

South View School continues to build on its strong foundation of excellence in both academics and sports. Our plans for 2025 reflect our commitment to growth and innovation. Our Primary School is approaching full capacity, while our Secondary School is experiencing rapid expansion. In August 2025, we will launch new specialist programs and additional course options to further enrich our academic offerings.

We are proud of our students' achievements, with two of our learners already recognized as top performers at IGCSE level and we look forward to celebrating the results of our first Year 13 cohort, who will complete their A Level and BTEC qualifications in June 2024.

Several exciting construction projects are planned for the next academic year to enhance our facilities, including:

- A state-of-the-art Executive Hospitality Suite

- A dedicated Media Studies suite

- An expanded Art Department featuring new Textiles and Graphic Art facilities

These developments demonstrate our ongoing commitment to providing exceptional educational opportunities and facilities for our students.

2. How do you decide what to focus on academically each year, and which new ideas are you pursuing?

At South View School, our academic focus and curriculum development are guided by a comprehensive approach that considers multiple key factors:

Student-Centered Decision Making

With close student, family and data reference, we analyze our student cohort's abilities, interests, and aspirations to ensure our academic offerings align with their potential and goals. This personalized approach helps us tailor our programs to maximize student success.

Market Awareness

We maintain a strong understanding of current market needs, educational trends, and evolving career landscapes. This awareness ensures our curriculum remains relevant and prepares students for future opportunities.

Early Career Guidance

Beginning in Year 7, we implement a robust careers and university guidance program. This early start allows students to:

- Develop a clear understanding of their options

- Make informed decisions about their academic pathways

- Avoid common pitfalls in subject selection

- Build strong foundations for their future careers

Our proactive approach to academic planning ensures students can make confident, well-informed choices about their educational journey. By combining student aspirations with market insights, we create an educational environment that supports both personal growth and future success.

Sadly, there is no school on the planet that does not suffer at some point from the negativities of bullying. How this negative is addressed is key to a wholesome and happy school experience. Through this comprehensive approach to extracurricular activities, we ensure each student can discover and develop their unique talents while building essential skills for their future success.

12. As a Principal, what is your definition of success?

Success is defined for me as personal fulfilment. This being further defined as: Demonstrated academic success, having an authentic mentality of kindness, confidence, tolerance, curiosity and passion without obsession or selfishness. Taking joy in the success of others as well as self and, importantly, not being threatened by difference but welcoming it as an ability to broaden understanding and growth for self and society.

13. If you had the opportunity to inspire the world in one sentence, what would that sentence be?

Be truly “you” in all that you are and do and, be “you” with a constantly curious mind, a kind heart, and a motivated soul.
